Thank you to Isla who brought in some frog spawn to support our topic learning on Evolution. We have been looking at how animals have evolved and learning about animal groups. We have been looking at amphibians, so what a great way to observe them for real. On Monday they were tiny black dots. Today they are long and we can see some of them wriggling. Some of them will hatch soon. The children are fascinated by them.

In Literacy this week we have been looking at newspaper reports and their features. We used role play to help us understand how to use quotations. We have been learning how to write consistently in the past tense. Next week we will plan and write our own newspaper reports.

We had an author visit this week. The children were really engaged and used their imagination. Arthur wrote a story in the style of a song, which he confidently performed at the end of the day. He has inspired a group of girls to write a song too.

In Maths, Year 5 have been learning about decimals. They have been learning to read, write, order and compare numbers with up to three decimal places. They have also been learning to round decimals with two decimal places to the nearest whole number and to one decimal place.

Year 6 have been learning the formulas to find the area of a triangle and parallelogram and how to find the volume of a 3D shape.

In topic this week, we have been finding out about dinosaurs, how they adapted to their environment and we also looked at the reproduction of flowers.

In P.E. we have continued to create our dance and are hoping some parents may come and watch nearer the end of term.

Your child should have come home with a letter for a school trip to the Science Museum. We will be going in June.

Due to COVID, SATS have not taken place for the last 2 years, but this year they will be. On the 31st March there will be a year 6 SATs parents evening from 3.30pm in Cedar Class to go over SATs and how you can support your child. We will also answer any questions you may have.

Thank you for your continued support.

Have a lovely and hopefully sunny weekend.

Mrs Rackley, Mrs Stokes and Ms Burton.
