Welcome back to another new term. As ever, the children have been amazing and have returned with great enthusiasm.
In Literacy we have been reading the story 'Cosmic' by Frank Cottrell Boyce. We have discovered that the main character (Liam) is 12 years old and extremely tall, which makes him appear grown up. So, he uses this to his advantage and gets into all sorts of 'grown up' situations. He enters an adult competition for a trip to Space - and wins! We have written a prediction for his adventure. We have written in the first person, a diary entry, pretending to be Liam. We concluded the week by creating a new scene between Liam and his friend (Florida Kirby) and used inverted commas to write a dialogue between them.
In Maths, Year 5 have been looking at comparing and ordering fractions. Year 6 have been looking at measures. The week started off recapping what units of measure we use to measure mass, length and volume and capacity. We have also been converting between different measures and problem-solving using conversions.
Our topic is called Space Explorers and the children have already found out some interesting facts about space and the planets. Spanish is also linked to our topic this term.
We will continue to do Joe Wicks until we return to school on the 8th of March.
Don't forget it's World Book Day next Thursday (4.3.21). What will you dress up as?
Home learning has been assigned on Teams. This week design and create a front cover for the book 'Cosmic'
