Another busy week of great learning!
In Literacy this week, we have continued to read Cosmic. As we approach the end of the story, we are discussing whether Liam actually does go into space. Does he actually land on a planet? We have been exploring emotions and how the characters must feel. We have used drama and freeze frame to act out scenes. Towards the end of the week, we looked at how we can help save our planet and wrote a letter to the World Leaders pleading with them to do something.
In Maths, Year 5 have been ordering and comparing numbers with up to 3 decimal places. At the beginning of the week, the children did a practical lesson outside to help them understand the concept. Year 6 have been looking at scale factors and ratio and proportion. They have been solving problems involving these areas.
In topic, we are continuing to find out about space and our solar system. We explored whether the Earth was round or flat and what evidence suggests this.
As part of the Year 6 transition into Year 7, parents will have received information about how to support your child in preparation to move to secondary school. The school websites have been sent. A questionnaire has also been sent for the children to do. Please encourage them to complete the questionnaire. This should be completed by the 24th April 2021. More information will be sent out after the Easter break along with a booklet and tasks to do. We will also be discussing this in school. If you have any concerns about your child and their transition into secondary school, please speak to Mrs Rackley.
We have another exciting opportunity for Year 5 and 6 to work with Valley Park students for their V in the Park in the summer, if Covid allows it. There will be more information after Easter.
We look forward to seeing you at our virtual Parents' Evening next week.
The Flash Mob should be ready for viewing next week. We can't wait to see it.
Have a lovely weekend.
