Term 4 Week 5 24.3.23

Literacy

In literacy this week we have continued to read Cosmic. We spent the first part of the week planning a diary entry and then spent 2 days writing a diary about Florida’s birthday. This was written in the first person and we explored emotive language. We then spent the last part of the week learning about synonyms and antonyms.

Maths

In maths, Year 5 have been finding the area and perimeter of regular and compound shapes. They have been finding missing numbers in the measurements and using this knowledge to solve problems.

Year 6 have been learning to find the area of parallelograms and the volume of 3D shapes by using the formula L x W x H. We completed the week by reading and interpreting line graphs and bar charts.

Science

In science this week we have looked at the different phases of the moon.

PSHE

In PSHE we looked at caring. We discussed what we care about and why and explored the reasons why and how we care for them.

Art

In art we used the art skills and techniques we explored last week to create a nebula painting.

School Website

There is a page on the school website for year 6 maths revision for SATs and the Year 5 and 6 spelling list. If you look in the children’s section you will find it there. It also has links to YouTube tutorials.

Home Learning

Year 5 practice your times tables on TT Rockstars and your spellings on EdShed.

Year 6 there is a maths SATs revision page on the school website and also learn the spellings for Year 5 and 6 which are also on the website.

PE Kits

There are still some children not wearing the correct PE kit. It must be black shorts/jogging bottoms/leggings with the team colour T shirt. No belly tops should be worn either.

Next Friday is the celebration of Holi. The children can come to school in bright coloured and there will be an opportunity for them to take part in a paint throwing event which you must sign consent for as the children will get messy. Please see the newsletter for this event.

Have a great weekend.
