Term 1 week 5 blog

Hello :)

We are over half way through the term now and I am so impressed with the progression that is happening in the class!

Literacy

We have finished off our own stories this week based on 'The Pirate Cruncher'. The writing produced has been outstanding and we have really enjoyed sharing the stories as a class. We have also been focusing on our set 2 RWI sounds (if you are unfamiliar with these please see our 'Literacy at Park Way' page or ask me for a copy). This week we have been focusing on the digraph 'or' and have been practicing applying this to words and sentences. Our handwriting continues to improve as we do it daily and I have been really impressed with our letter formation this week as well! We are starting a new topic on instruction writing linked to a new book 'Lunch on a Pirate Ship' which we cannot wait to get started with!

Year 1 Maths

Year 1's have been super busy this week with their learning! They have continued to look at and recall their number bonds to 10 and 20 and have been looking at counting in steps of 2,5 and 10. We have also begun to look at applying these skills to problem solving and are getting really confident with our explanations of our learning!

Year 2 Maths

Year 2's have been incredible this week! We are finishing off our unit on numbers and have started the week off by looking at adding and subtracting 10 from any number up to 100. We have also been looking at estimating numbers on a number line and applying our knowledge to problem solving which is amazing!

Afternoons

We have been conducting experiments this week in science to see what materials are waterproof and how we can tell. We have also been looking at different pirates that sailed the seven seas and the pirate code that all pirates had to follow. We linked this to our school rules and why it is important for everyone to know and follow the rules.
