Hello :)
I cannot believe that we only have one week left before the October half term! The term has flown by and I am so proud of the progress we have made.
Literacy
This week we have really gotten our teeth into instruction writing. We have been reading our focus text 'Lunch on a Pirate Ship' and begun to look at the different features used in instructions. We are confident with what an imperative verb is and how time conjunctions help us to sequence our instructions. We have also been looking at the different sentence types we can use when writing and looked at how the punctuation of these sentences change depending on its meaning.
Year 1 Maths
This week we have begun to look at addition. We have continued to practice and recall our number bonds to 10 and 20 and have linked this to our addition knowledge. Year 1's have explored the different ways we can say 'add' and have started to use the '+' symbol to add numbers together correctly.
Year 2 Maths
Year 2's have also begun their unit on addition this week. Together, we have been practicing and recalling our numbers bonds to 10 and 20 and made links to 100 using related facts. We have also started to look at adding 2 and 1 digit numbers together which is a brilliant start to our addition unit!
Afternoons
We have been busy during our afternoons. In R.E. we looked at the actions of humans on the planet and how we can work together to ensure that we keep our planet safe and healthy through kind acts. We have conducted a science experiment to see how the density of liquids are different. We used this experiment to pose questions and came up with some very thought provoking ideas! We have also gotten our creative hats on this week and looked at how money and currency has changed over the years. We looked at different designs of pirate money and using our knowledge of pirates, designed our own currency and the made our coins using clay.
