Firstly, I'd like to wish everyone a Happy New Year and hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. I know this isn't how we would have liked 2021 to begin but I can only say how very grateful I am for the attitude and resilience of both the children of Holly Class and their parents for taking online learning in their stride!
Despite taking our learning to the computers, we have been outstanding this week!
We have started our new focus text 'Traction Man' and have been consolidating our knowledge of handwriting, punctuation and sentence structure. I have been really impressed with the learning that has been produced. We have also been having daily phonics lessons and have still been able to have our RWI sessions, reading books together and discussing them which has been amazing!
Year 1 Maths
This week, we have been recapping on our learning of place value so we are confident with numbers before moving on to addition and subtraction up to 30 and beyond next week! Year 1 have been superstars with their learning this week by counting in steps of 2 and 5 and finding 1 more and 1 less than any given number! A huge well done for remembering so much from last term :)
Year 2 Maths
Despite the shops being closed in the high streets, we have been open for business! Year 2 have been busy finishing their learning on money and can confidently add and subtract money using a written method and find and give change! (Even when there is a January sale going on)!
We have been busy in our afternoons as well with science, topic and P.E. We have been on scavenger hunts around the house looking for different materials and have started to identify why certain materials are more suitable for things than others. We discussed what we are proud of from last year and made our own new years resolutions ready for the rest of 2021!
A brilliant first week back and I am extremely proud of all my class :)
