Well this week has been amazing in Holly Class! We have achieved so much and are well and truly back into the swing of being back at school!
Year 1 Holly Class children have been taking their learning to the next level! In literacy they have been focusing on their handwriting and letter formation, punctuating sentences with capital letters and full stops and even using the conjunction 'and' to extend their sentences with outstanding success! In maths they have been just as amazing. This week we have been learning all about the different ways to make numbers and have even begun to count in steps of 2! I cannot wait to see all their amazing learning next week :)
Year 2 children have been equally impressive this week. We have had a big push on our handwriting and presentation in our books and this is beginning to really impress Ms Stokes and myself. In literacy we have been busy looking at our handwriting, using expanded noun phrases to add additional detail to our writing and using a range of conjunctions to extend our sentences. This has really helped with our writing and we are producing some fantastic pieces of learning :) In maths we have been looking at partitioning numbers in different ways, sequencing numbers and solving problems using our knowledge of place value. It has been an impressive week and I am looking forward to seeing what next week brings :)
In topic we have been focusing on Queen Victoria. We looked at her role within history and her significance globally including the different places around the world that she ruled. We have also been role playing and learning about the life of a chimney sweep and will begin writing diaries as if we were a chimney sweep next week!
In science we have been looking at working scientifically and completed the skittle challenge! This science experiment allowed us to witness what happens when you apply warm water to sugar with a beautiful rainbow effect! I cannot wait to see their faces and we complete our next experiment :)
A huge well done for all the amazing learning that has taken place this week; I cannot wait to see more :)
1.) As the weather has begun to turn, we are asking that all children bring a pair of wellington boots into school so we can still access the outdoors for our learning. Please send these into school over the next two weeks in a plastic bag that has your child's name on them.
2.) Home learning is handed out on a Friday and is due back the following Thursday. We would be grateful for your continued support with completing their home learning and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me via our class email: firstname.lastname@example.org
3.) Please remember to sign your child's reading record so we can change their books. We have already seen some amazing progress with reading since our return to school and we want to keep this up! ALL reading records are collected on a Friday to see how we are getting on reading at home.
