Week ending Friday 27th May, Term 5 Week 6

Wow, we have come to the end of a busy half term. Year 6 have now completed their SATs and will begin their exciting transitions to their secondary schools. Year 5 are beginning to prepare for Year 6.

We have had a great term looking at poetry. The children have looked at the features of a poem, different genres and written their own. In this last week, we have looked at the Queen’s Jubilee and investigated the Queen’s long reign. We used this information to produce a poem about the Queen. We have enjoyed using our learning about our Queen’s Jubilee.

In Maths, Year 6 have been using and applying their knowledge of the various skills we have learned in maths such as multiplication, addition, subtraction, algebra,  measuring and drawing angles and shapes, symmetry, mapping and plotting, reading ad interpreting graphs in our maths investigations dubbed "Murder Mysteries" where we had carried out case studies, explored clues and successfully worked out possible solutions to baffling puzzles.

Year 5 have been looking at shapes – 2D and 3D – and their properties. We have continued this to look at co-ordinates, mirror images and looking at the translation of shapes in the first quadrant.

This term we have been looking into 3D designs. During ICT we have used SketchUp to make 3D buildings and furnish them. The children have thought about the measurements of their creations, ensuring that their building could be made in real life.

In Science; we have been exploring the eyes and the ears in Look! Hear. The children have loved investigating these parts of the bodies as well as explored how we see things, why shadows are formed and how they are affected by sunrise and sunset. They have also made some amazing models and diagrams that are currently on display in the classroom.

In RE we explored Islam and the concept of life after death.

In PSHE, the children have been looking at economic wellbeing and thinking about money, taxes, borrowing, spending and budgeting. We continued this to think about stereotyping in the work place. We thought about what this may look like and what we could do to overcome this issue. The discussions during these lessons are brilliant. The class always have lots of ideas and questions.

We have completed our course of swimming lessons. The children thoroughly enjoyed these lessons and had fun in the pool this week as they went in the fun pool.

P.E. will continue to be on Friday next term. The children must wear their P.E. kit and not football kits/tracksuits or shorts that are too short. The P.E. kit is black leggings/tracksuit bottoms/shorts and their team colour T shirt. Jewellery must not be worn on P.E. days.

Home learning will be set on Teams for the half term.

We hope you have a lovely half term break. We will see you on Tuesday 7th June.
