Welcome to Elm Class.

Elm Class is a Year 3/4 class.  Our teacher is Miss Gilbert and Mrs Rackley and our teaching assistant is Mrs Shaw.
What a fantastic first week. It has been a really positive start to the new school year! We are so looking forward to this year. We are going to do amazing learning!

School Trip

We are going to the British Museum on Tuesday 19th September 2017. We have limited spaces for parents so please let Miss Gilbert or Mrs Rackley know if you can come with us!

Swimming for Elm Class is every Thursday this term except the last week. We will leave school at 2.30. The children must be collected from Mote Park Leisure Centre at 3.45pm. The children will need long hair tied back, swimming kit and a towel. They can bring goggles if they wish.

If there are any parents available to walk down with us, we would really appreciate it!

We have Guided Reading everyday where all children have a reading based activity. All children will read with Miss Gilbert or Mrs Rackley every week. The children must record any reading they do at home as we will be tracking this. The children can change their books as often as they like but at least once a week. Whilst many children can read independently and fluently we would still like parents to engage in their child's reading. Here's what you can do to support your child's reading ...

  • Ask them to read a page, chapter to you

  • Ask them about their book, find out what they've read so far!

  • Ask them what they think will happen at the end of the story.

  • Encourage them to use a dictionary to find out the definition of new words.

  • Find out whether they are enjoying the story and why.

P.E. is every Tuesday and Mrs Shaw will be taking the children for their P.E. session. All children need shorts, their colour team T. shirt or a plain white T. Shirt and plimsolls/trainers. Children who forget their P.E. kit will be sent to another class to do some learning.  P.E. is part of the National Curriculum and all children are required to take part. Letters will be sent home to inform you if your child has forgotten their P.E. kit.

Home Learning

Home learning will be sent home every Friday and expected back the following Wednesday.  Home learning will be tracked to ensure all children are completing it. Warning cards are given if your child doesn't complete their home learning and hand it in on time. It's important your child does their home learning as it consolidates learning or it introduces them and prepares them for the following week's learning. Please see Miss Gilbert or Mrs Rackley if you have any questions regarding home learning.

We follow our school behaviour policy and reward positive behaviour and sanction unacceptable behaviour. The children will be given a verbal warning and an opportunity to rectify their behaviour. They then get 5 minutes time out in class and a yellow warning card on our 'Good to be Green' chart. Followed by another yellow card, 5 minutes time out and an ABC form completed. Red cards follow this with a child having to report to Mrs Dhanecha or Miss Hill. Parents will be informed of a child's behaviour where necessary. Those children that follow school rules and policy get rewarded at the end of the week with a special treat from the class 'Treasure Box'.
