The children have had a great week. In our Literacy lessons this week we continued learning about 'The Gingerbread Man'. We recapped what happened in the story. We wrote a list of ingredients needed to make Gingerbread. We then spent the rest of the week creating our own recipe book, ensuring we numbered each step and wrote what we needed to do with all the ingredients to make our treats.
In Maths we have been working in groups to focus on 'Talk about measure and pattern'. We used multilink cubes to build different size towers. Using these towers, the children were asked which towers were 'tall' and which towers were 'short'. We also spoke about big and small. We then introduced scales and what they are used for. Using playdough the children made various size balls and predicted which ball would be 'heavier' and which would be 'lighter'. They then placed the balls of playdough on to the scales to check if they were correct. We even made ourselves in to scales and held objects to see which one was heavy and light. The last activity challenged the children to consider which object (all of varying sizes) would fit into the box we provided them with. The children thought about the different options, using language such as "this can't fit because it is too big" and settled on the objects which they believed would fit best. We then had a go at placing the items in the box to confirm their predictions.
In PE this week we continued moving like different animals, but this time to music. We used a tambourine to create music, and taught the children how to move to the beat, listening to the rhythm. We practiced moving to a fast tempo and then a slow tempo.
For PSHE we spoke about the feelings and emotions we have been trying to identify. We learned that all feelings are normal and it is important that we acknowledge them. We looked at some coping techniques, we can begin to use when we are feeling overwhelmed and how they can help calm us.
Our Understanding of the World lesson this week allowed us to go on an autumn walk as a class. While out on our walk, we collected some autumnal objects such as crunchy leaves, sticks, acorns and conkers. On our return to class we looked at the objects we collected and discussed what they looked like, how they felt and what they sounded like.
NEXT WEEK:
For our Understanding of the World lesson next week, we are looking at 'The Past and Present' and linking this to family and photos. Therefore please can you send your child in with a family photo of your choice. Just one photo per child. This will give the children an opportunity to share their photos with the class, tell us who is in the photo and what they were doing when the photo was taken.
Please DO NOT send in original copies of photos as the children will be looking at and handling these photos. Please send a copy of the photo for your child to share with their class.
Thank you,
Have a lovely weekend,
The EYFS Team.
