Term 1 Week 3!

We are really getting into the swing of things now, and it has been wonderful to see the children demonstrating such an eagerness to learn. This week, the class impressed us with their fantastic retrieval skills, showing just how much knowledge they are retaining and applying across the curriculum.

⚽ PE

In PE, we focused on teamwork challenges, working together in larger groups to solve problems and support one another. We were also lucky to have Coach Ross working with us, helping the children develop key skills that will build towards learning cricket later in the term.

🔢 Maths

Our Year 3 mathematicians have been working hard on place value within 1,000. They have explored flexible partitioning to solve problems and practised finding 1, 10 and 100 more and less than a given number. It has been fantastic to see their confidence growing as they explain their mathematical thinking.  Year 4 children have also been developing their understanding of place value with numbers of increasing size.

📖 Literacy

We continued exploring our class text, The Cave Explorer, while learning about the fascinating Lascaux Cave in France. The children have been identifying and using similes, exploring the features of newspaper reports and practising writing in the past tense.

🔬 Science

In Science, we became historians and investigators by looking at evidence to compare diets from the Stone Age with those of modern times. The children enjoyed discussing how food sources and eating habits have changed over thousands of years.

🇪🇸 Spanish

This week, we learnt the Spanish names for five musical instruments: 🎹 Piano 🎶 Harp 🔺 Triangle 🎸 Guitar 🎼 Clarinet

The children did a fantastic job remembering and pronouncing the new vocabulary.

🕉️ RE

In RE, we learnt about how Hindus live their lives and reflected thoughtfully on our own beliefs and values. The children participated in respectful discussions and shared their ideas with maturity.

🎨 Art

Our young artists designed drafts for their own cave art, experimenting with different materials and mediums to create their ideas. We can't wait to begin developing these into final pieces.

📜 History

In History, we continued our Stone Age learning by exploring timelines and understanding where key events fit within prehistoric Britain.

🗣️ Class Conference

During our class conference, the children recognised some real strengths. They were particularly proud of:

✅ Their excellent attitude in Art lessons

✅ Their fantastic behaviour when sitting in assembly

As a class, we also identified our next target: reducing noise levels during independent focus times. The children have already worked together to create a plan to help us achieve this goal over the coming week.
