Term 1 Week 5!
🌰 Walnut Class Weekly Update 🌰
Another week complete, and what a fantastic week it has been!
This week, we launched a brand-new incentive called Walnut Wows! Children who go above and beyond, whether in the classroom or around the school, earn a place on our Walnut Wow board and are entered into a mini raffle at the end of the week. Even better, if a child reaches 10 Walnut Wows and their number hasn't been picked, they automatically win a prize! We are already seeing some wonderful examples of kindness, effort and responsibility.
🏃 PE
In PE, we took part in some fun communication and teamwork activities that required us to rely on and trust our teammates. It was fantastic to see the children encouraging one another and developing confidence in working together. With Coach Ross, the children also continued developing their cricket skills, improving their bowling accuracy and having a go at striking the ball with a cricket bat.
➕ Maths
Our Year 3 mathematicians have been exploring where place value meets addition and subtraction. Throughout the week, the children practised adding ones, tens and hundreds to 3-digit numbers before applying these skills to a range of reasoning and problem-solving challenges at the end of the week. We have been impressed by their resilience and mathematical thinking. Our Year 4 mathematicians have been rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000.
📰 Literacy
On Monday, we upskilled our knowledge of the prefixes im-, ir- and il-. For the rest of the week, the children have been busy creating storyboards, writing scripts and rehearsing their very own Stone Age Newsrounds. Unfortunately, school photographs meant we were unable to film this week, but we are excited to record the final presentations on Monday!
🦷 Science
In Science, we learned all about teeth, exploring how to keep them healthy and why good dental hygiene is so important.
🕉️ R.E.
Our learning focused on what it is like to be a Hindu living in Britain today. It was lovely to see the children sharing their experiences and discussing different cultures respectfully. I wholeheartedly believe that celebrating and learning from one another's backgrounds is one of the many strengths of Walnut Class.
🎨 Art
Using our knowledge of Stone Age jewellery, we designed our own pieces this week. We are looking forward to bringing our designs to life and making them over the coming weeks.
🏺 History
In History, we continued our journey through prehistory by investigating the differences between the Stone Age and the Bronze Age, considering how life changed over time.
💬 Class Conference
During our class conference, we agreed to continue focusing on our noise levels during the afternoon sessions so that everyone can learn in a calm and productive environment.
📚 Reading Reminder
A gentle reminder to please ensure that your child is reading regularly at home and that their reading record is signed. Some reading records are being handed in without any evidence of reading, so we would greatly appreciate your support with this important home learning routine.
