In English this week we have written questions that we would ask the Hero Twins, then we used role play to interview them with our questions before we wrote their responses. We also used drama to act out scenes from the story.
In Maths, Year 5 have been learning how to find fractions of amounts and use fractions as operators. Year 6 have been learning how to find equivalent fractions and decimals, understand fractions as division, how to convert fractions into decimals, understand percentages and how to change fractions to percentages. We ended the week finding equivalent fractions, decimals and percentages.
In Science, we continued with reversible and irreversible materials. We investigated what happens to Bicarbonate of Soda and Vinegar when they are mixed. It causes a chemical reaction that produces Carbon Dioxide. We investigated this by using the chemical reaction to inflate a balloon. The children got really excited to explore and observe this. We also wrote up the investigation.
In History, we learnt about the decline of the Mayan civilization. This will continue next week as we prepare a presentation on it.
In RE, we recapped on the 4th Pillar of Islam: Sawm. We learnt about Ramadan and why it is important for Muslims to show their commitment to Allah.
In PE, we worked together to create a sequence of rolling, balance and movement in Gymnastics, assessing as we went along. The children must remove their shoes and socks for Gymnastics for safety reasons. Some of the children are refusing to do this. Please encourage them to do this.
In PSHE, we learnt about basic first aid and how to help someone if they are bleeding.
Mobile Phones
There are some children who do not have permission to bring their phones to school as parents have not completed the Microsoft Form. Your child has been told if they do not have permission. You can find the QR code for this on the school newsletter or click this link.
