Term 1 Week 2 12.9.25

Our first full week. What a busy one! Lots of our Year 6 sat their Kent Test on Thursday. Good luck, you were amazing. Year 5 will have the opportunity when they are in Year 6. There will be more information about this in June next year.

English

This week we have written a 'cold write' story as part of our fiction text. We planned a story about an adventure that involved a boat journey, then wrote the story over 2 days. We then edited our story by looking for spelling errors, punctuation and any other ways to improve it. This writing will inform me about the children's strengths and weaknesses when writing fiction stories independently.

Maths

Year 5 and 6 have continued to explore place value, looking at the value of digits, comparing and ordering numbers, reading and writing numbers in words and numerals. Year 5 focus on numbers up to 1,000,000 whilst year 6 look at numbers up to 10,000,000.

Year 6 have some Maths learning set on MyMaths. They have been given their log in. Please encourage them to do this.

Science

This term for Science we are learning about Living Things and their Habitats. We learnt about the reproduction of plants this week and had the opportunity to dissect a flower so we could see the stamen, filament, carpel and other reproductive parts of a plant.

Geography

Our topic is called Earth as an Island. This week we looked at the physical and human features of a location: Cape Verde. We focused on this island as it will be featuring in the text we will be reading from Monday.

DT

We are learning about ingredients and exploring how they are produced. We have discussed which foods are grown, caught, reared or processed. We chose an island to explore the traditional food from there and created menus for that island.

PSHE

In PSHE we explored how to make and maintain positive relationships with a focus on friendships.

Golden Book

Every week, 2 children are chosen for their outstanding behaviour and learning. This is celebrated in our whole school assembly on Monday mornings. This term we are focusing on our value of Respect. Last week Jack and Kiara were 2 children who showed great respect and had a really positive start to the year. This week our 2 children are Oliver and Charlotte for their positive approach to their learning and excellent behaviour.

Reminders

Only stud earrings are to be worn to school and should be removed for PE.

PE is Thursday and Friday.

Home learning is practicing spellings on EdShed and times tables on TTRockstars. The children now have their log ins.

Have a lovely weekend.
