Another week of great learning.
Bikeability was a great success, well done to everyone who signed up and completed the levels.
In English, we have finished reading Kensuke’s Kingdom. We have mixed emotions about the characters and have discussed empathy for Kensuke and Michael. We have written predictions, researched Nagasaki (where Kensuke comes from) and written a non-chronological text. We wrote open ended questions that we would ask Michael if we were to meet him and used this for role play.
Next week we are going to watch Kensuke’s Kingdom.
In Maths, Year 5 have been learning about multiples and factors. They have been identifying these and presenting them in Venn Diagrams and using this knowledge to help learn their times tables. Year 6 have been learning how to use long division strategies to solve problems. This has proven difficult as the divisor was a 2-digit number and the children are having to work out the multiples and times table of that number. PLEASE SEE THE YEAR 6 SATS RESOURCES ON THE WEBSITE TO SUPPORT DIVISION LEARNING.
In Science, we continued to look at life cycles of more unusual animals that do not meet the rule for their animal group, exploring each stage of the development of their growth.
In Geography, we explored how to use 4 and 6-digit grid references on an ordnance map. We explored when this would be used and how a key is important in map reading.
In DT, we have finalised our recipe for our stew we are making next week based on the Cape Verde stew Cachupa.
In PSHE, we explored relationships within our families.
Golden Book
This week our Golden Book winners are: Kayden and Felix. Kayden for amazing Maths learning with great reasoning. Felix for making a great effort to improve his handwriting.
In PE, we have continued to learn and develop our football and basketball skills.

Home Learning
Our home learning is to learn their times tables on TTRockstars. This is monitored weekly. Also, EdShed, where they will learn to improve their spelling. The weekly spellings on EdShed are also learnt in school. Year 6 have maths home learning set on MyMaths. All children have been given their passwords. The children should also be reading daily and writing in their Reading Records.
Have a lovely weekend.
