Welcome back to Term 2. We hope you all had a rested break.
In English this term, we are focusing on poetry. We will be exploring the works of Karl Nova and Matt Goodfellow. This week, we have explored expanded noun phrases, when you use adjectives to describe nouns, and planned and written a poem around Bonfire Night or Halloween for our cold write. We finished the week with editing.
In Maths, Year 5 have been learning to multiply and divide whole numbers and decimal numbers by 10, 100 and 1,000. They have been identifying multiples of 10, 100 and 1,000 and also multiplying and dividing using factors and multiples to the powers of 10. Year 6 started the term with an arithmetic assessment and then we have been focusing on finding equivalent fractions, placing fractions on a number line and simplifying fractions. We finished the week by comparing fractions.
In DT, we learnt about Dorothee Pullinger, the first female pioneering engineer who designed and built the first car for women. We then discussed sustainability and what this means. Then we designed our own futuristic, sustainable vehicle preparing us for a term of design and exploring pulleys and levers.
In History, we looked at inventions since 6000BCE to modern day. We discussed and ordered the ones we thought were the most important to least important. We then ordered them in chronological order. There were some surprises!
In PSHE, we looked at how we can relax and how yoga is a good way to do this.
In PE, this term we are learning about Fitness and Tag Rugby. Our PE days remain the same.
Golden Book
As we returned on Tuesday this week, we didn’t have our whole school assembly, so our Golden Book winners for before half term will receive their recognition on Monday. Evie for an amazing story for her Hot Write and David for always following school rules and showing respect.
Social Media
We are having some issues with children on Social Media: WhatsApp and Snapchat. The conversations are very unkind, involve foul language and causing issues when the children are in school. If your child uses Social Media, can I remind you that there are age restrictions and you should be monitoring your child’s activity to keep them safe online. Some children are using their friend’s phones as a means to access these apps.
