Term 2 Week 2 7.11.25

How quickly are the weeks going?

It was great to see so many parents at parents evening this week. Thank you for sparing the time to discuss your child’s learning.

In English this week we have started to look at the poems by Matt Goodfellow. We have been exploring the layout and structure of poems. We have been identifying rhyming patterns and looking at how syllables in words and lines contribute to patterns and how we read poems. We chose a theme, collected ideas and wrote our own poems at the end of the week.

Spellings

Each week we focus on a spelling list that the children can practice on EdShed. Next week our spellings are words with an oa sound spelled 'ou' or 'ow'. Please encourage your child to go on EdShed to learn them.

blown, known, mould, poultry, shallow, shoulder, smoulder, soul, thrown, window.

In Maths, Year 5 have been learning to find fractions of a discrete amount of objects. They have also been exploring how to find equivalent fractions too. Year 6 have been learning how to convert improper fractions to mixed number fractions, and vice versa. They have also been learning to add and subtract mixed number fractions. They have found this quite tricky this week having to find the common denominator.

In Art, we learnt about Dadaism and how it was a movement during World War 2. Artists opposed the modernization and changing world and created art work to depict this. We did some research and sketched our own thoughts and ideas ready to create a piece of work.

In History, we explored The Round City and civilization in Baghdad in modern day Iraq and compared it to British history at the time (CE900). We found out that at this time many inventions continue to have had an impact on the modern world: coffee, glass, perfume. We discussed the Round City and why it was round, why it was built where it was on the River Tigre.

In RE, we are focusing on racism and why it is unfair. Our key vocabulary is: racism, prejudice, diversity and equality. This week we looked at different racial scenarios and discussed them and explored why they were unfair.

In Science this term we are exploring Animals Including Humans and this week we learnt about gestation and stages humans go though from 0 to old age.

In PE, this term we are learning about Fitness and Tag Rugby. Our PE days remain the same.

Golden Book

This week’s Golden Book winners are Rita and Rayan. Rita for always showing respect, being polite and her positive attitude towards her learning. Rayan for his contribution to discussions, answering questions and reading aloud during guided reading teaching input.
