Term 2 Week 3 14.11.25

In English this week we have continued to look at the poems of Matt Goodfellow. We have focused on figurative language and explored how to use metaphors, similes and personification. We identified them in poems, and used visuals to write our own. We completed the week by writing our own poems using figurative language.

In Maths, Year 5 have been learning to compare fractions by finding the lowest common denominator using their knowledge of times tables. Year 6 have been learning to multiply fractions by a whole number and a fraction. We have also been learning how to divide fractions by a whole number and a whole number by a fraction.

In History, we learnt about the House of Wisdom and the impact this had on modern society.

In RE, we explored John Wesley and Edward Colston who both have statues in Bristol. We explored their lives and how Edward’s involvement in the slave trade led to his statue being taken down by protestors in 2020.

In Science this term we are exploring Animals Including Humans. This week we recorded the gestation periods of different animals in bar graphs and discussed why these differ.

In DT, we explored pulleys and used the Lego Education Wedo Software to explore how pulleys work. The children loved this and were really creative when making their pulleys.

In PE, this term we are learning about Fitness and Tag Rugby. Our PE days remain the same.
