Term 2 Week 4 21.11.25

Wow, what a change in the weather this week! It really feels like winter is on its way, so please make sure your child comes to school with a warm, waterproof coat with their name in it. Gloves, scarves and hats are most welcome too! We’ll still be heading outside for playtimes and PE, and we don’t want anyone getting cold or wet.
In English, we’ve had a fantastic time exploring rhythm and poetry through rap. The children listened to the brilliant poet Karl Nova, whose work really got us thinking about how words can flow with a beat. We even tried rapping some of his poems ourselves, and it was amazing to see the confidence and creativity shining through. There are definitely some future performers in the room!
Maths has been all about fractions this week. Year 6 have finished their fractions topic by learning how to find fractions of amounts and even how to work out the whole when given a fraction. It’s been challenging, but they’ve worked so hard and shown great resilience. Please explore the Year 6 SATs resources page on our website for further support. Year 5 have been adding fractions, including mixed numbers, which is no easy task.
In Science, we focused on puberty and adolescence and found out how humans change during this period of their life. We created Venn Diagrams to explore the changes that boys and girls go through. Next week we are learning about personal hygiene.
In History we learnt about Ibn Battuta. He was a Moroccan explorer who travelled over 75,000 miles through the Muslim world in 14th century spanning 25 years. He wrote a Rihla (his travels) to share the wonders he saw and inspired many Muslims.
In RE we are continuing to explore racism and prejudice and how God has no favourites.
In PSHE, we marked Anti-Bullying Week by talking about kindness, respect, and standing up for what’s right. The children shared thoughtful ideas about how we can make our school a safe and happy place for everyone.
In Music we asked Why Do We Sing? This led to a discussion about how music makes us feel. We have started to listening to Wade in the Water by different artists and making comparisons. This will continue next week as we explore Gospel music.
PE is still going strong with fitness and tag rugby. The children are improving their scores in fitness every week and showing fantastic teamwork and determination. Looking ahead, next week is UK Parliament Week. Year 5 and 6 will be taking part in lots of activities about democracy, including writing letters to our local MP. Who knows, we might have some future politicians in our midst!
Finally, a big congratulations to our Golden Book stars this week: Sally for an excellent and positive start to Cedar Class and Apsey for improved effort in his writing.
Have a fantastic weekend everyone.
