Welcome Back Cedar Class! 🎉
It’s been so lovely to see everyone after the Christmas/Winter break! What a week of crazy weather. Please ensure the children have their coats named and are wearing hats, gloves and scarves for play times.
A BIG well done to Cedar Class for their amazing class assembly and thank you to everyone who came to support us by watching it.
This week, we have jumped straight into our brand-new topic: AD900 – The Mayans! We’ve already started exploring this fascinating civilization and can’t wait to learn more.
In English, we kicked things off with our cold writes and even created newspaper articles featuring our very own Hero Twins! We planned and wrote a newpaper article about the Hero Twins and then ended the week by looking at how to use a newspaper report document on Word. Next week, we’ll dive into the real Mayan myth of the Hero Twins.
In Maths, Year 6 have been tackling algebra – writing formulae, substituting values, and solving equations. Year 5 have been multiplying numbers, including 3-digit by 2-digit challenges.
In RE, we explored the Five Pillars of Islam and how they guide a Muslim’s life.
In Music, we began learning about call-and-response singing from the Islamic faith.
History saw us stepping into the world of the Mayans and discovering what their society was like.
PE was all about team games with Commando Joe this week. Next week we’ll be starting Hockey and Gymnastics.
In PSHE, we had an important discussion about online friendships and the potential dangers that can come with them.
To top it all off, some of our lucky classmates got to take part in a Q&A with a local MP – Helen Whately! This was an amazing chance to ask questions and learn more about Parliament after our UK Parliament Week activities.
Reminders
- PE is still Thursday and Friday: please ensure the correct PE kit is worn.
- Earrings should be removed for PE.
- There has been a case of headlice in Year 5 and 6, please check your child's hair.
What a brilliant start to the term! Have a wonderful weekend, everyone.
