Term 3 Week 2 16.1.26

Week 2 has gone so quickly. Despite the weather being wet and miserable, meaning we have not got out at play and lunch, the children have coped well and are producing some amazing learning.

In English this week we have started to read the Mayan story about the Hero Twins. This week we have focused on adjectives, synonyms and antonyms and how to use these in expanded noun phrases. We used AI to create images of the underworld and used this to create word banks that supported our descriptive writing at the end of the week.

In Maths, Year 5 have been multiplying up to 4-digit numbers by 2-digit numbers and using this knowledge to solve problems. They have also been dividing up to a 4-digit number by a 1-digit number. Year 6 have continued with algebra looking at equations and finding the value of unknowns and pairs.

In Science, we are learning about Materials and their Properties. We explored the suitability of materials for different purposes and why this was suitable. Next week we will be investigating what materials are soluble.

In History, we learnt about Mayan Gods and explored the influence the Gods had on the way they saw the world. We created our own Mayan God, giving them a name and described their features and powers.

In RE, we recapped on the 5 Pillars of Islam. We learnt about Bilal, the first Muezzin, and how the call to the prayer for Muslims came from a human voice rather than a flag, drum or bell.

In PE, we learnt about different rolls and how to shape our bodied at the end of a roll.

Mobile Phones

There are some children who do not have permission to bring their phones to school as parents have not completed the Microsoft Form. Your child has been told if they do not have permission. You can find the QR code for this on the school newsletter or click this link.
