Welcome back to Term 4! It was lovely to see the sun shining on Tuesday and Wednesday. Roll on Spring!
We’re excited to begin a new term filled with lots of learning and activities. One of the highlights will be our trip to Kent Life on Friday 27th March 2026. Please remember to sign up on ScoPay. The cost includes the coach, entrance to Kent Life and the two workshops we’ll be taking part in during the day.
This week in Maths, Year 6 have been learning about area and perimeter, including how to find the area of triangles. Next week, they will be moving on to volume of 3D shapes. Year 5 have been exploring decimals and will continue with decimals and percentages next week. On Thursday, Year 6 took on the role of teachers and supported the Year 5 children with their area and perimeter work, showing fantastic teamwork and leadership.
In English, the children have completed their Cold Writes based on our new text, Pig Heart Boy by Malorie Blackman. We will begin reading this together after World Book Day.
In Science, we have started exploring evolution and what it means.
In DT, we’ve begun looking at seasonal food and why eating seasonally is important, which links perfectly with our upcoming Kent Life trip.
In RE, we have begun our learning on Christianity by looking at some of Jesus’ teachings.
In PE, we have started our dance and tennis topics. The Mission Impossible dance session on Thursday was a particular favourite among the children.
In PHSE, our focus this term is Citizenship.
In Music, we have been learning about drum beats and how to keep time with music.
In Computing, the children have begun exploring databases which will lead to the children coding their own.
Information
TTRS: This week’s TT Rockstars update: we unfortunately lost to Elm Class in our tournament, as some members of Cedar Class didn’t complete their home learning over the half term. Please remember that just five minutes of TTRS a day can make a big difference and help us work towards winning the next competition.
Home Learning
Home learning is to learn their times tables on TTRockstars. This is monitored weekly. EdShed, where they will learn to improve their spelling. The weekly spellings on EdShed are also learnt in school. Year 6 have maths home learning set on MyMaths. All children have been given their passwords. The children should also be reading daily and writing in their Reading Records.
Have a lovely weekend.
