Welcome everyone to our first Cherry Class blog of 2026!
I hope everyone had a great time over the Christmas holidays and is ready for the New Year!
In the classroom this week, we have been engaged in a number of activities across a range of subjects. In Literacy, our new topic will link to non-fiction and in particular recounts and newspapers. The children were given the headline 'The Hero Twins' and both planned and wrote an independent report based on this headline alone!
In Numeracy, Year 6 have been investigating algebra this week whilst Year 5 have looked at various written methods of multiplication.
Our new topic in Term 3 will focus on events from CE900, in particular the Mayan society of modern day Mexico and other Central American countries. We investigated the social structure of their civilisation from top to bottom, ruler to slave!
We also had a chance to investigate and design our own Mayan masks, which we will create for real later in the term!
In Science we looked at materials and their properties and discussed why some objects have been created from fabric, metal, wood and plastic. (and why a multi-use kettle made of chocolate would be of no use to anyone!!)
Just a reminder, PE this term will be on both Wednesdays and Fridays and we have a class assembly at 9am two weeks today on Friday 23rd January!
