Cherry Class Blog 2025 26 term 3 Week 2

Another week whizzes by!! Two weeks in, unbelievably, to the new year.

In Literacy this week the class have spent time carefully considering setting descriptions. As part of our new topic, we are reading a story called 'The Hero Twins' about two boys who play an ancient ball game (very loudly) and acquire the attention of the Mayan Lords of Death who inhabit Xibalba, the Mayan Underworld! We used A1 to generate pictures of said underworld and the children used fantastic language to describe their version of this truly terrifying and atrocious place.

In Numeracy, Year 5 have moved away from written methods of multiplication and word problems to looking at the short division method whilst Year 6 continued their learning linked to algebra.

In History we had an enjoyable lesson this week investigating Mayan religion and gods, and the children were keen to know what happened to Mayans that displeased the gods...........!

In Science we had a practical lesson this morning, linked to dissolving and soluble and insoluble materials. The children worked very sensibly, which was great to see, and were genuinely interested in their discoveries.

We continued with our gymnastics programme, this week concentrating on balances and counter-balances and in RE we looked at the 5 Pillars of Islam.

Have a great weekend everyone
