Welcome parents, relatives and carers to our penultimate blog of Term 3. It goes without saying that this week (and term in fact) has whizzed by and we only have one week to go before half-term!
In Literacy this week, the class have explored the role of 'reporters' and have both written questions and asked them in the style of a reporter linked to our ancient Mayan story 'The Hero Twins'. We also used drama in the classroom to act out a specific scene from the story!
In Numeracy Year 5 have consolidated their understanding of fractions by investigating fraction amounts and looking at if you know for example 3/5 of a whole what in fact is the total whole amount. Year 6 have been investigating fraction and decimal equivalents and also percentages.
In History this week we looked (sadly) at the reasons behind the decline of the Mayan empire. The children have really enjoyed investigating this civilisation from over 1000 years and it brought out Mayan learning to an end (although we are going to have a 'Mayan food' tasting session next week!)
In Science we looked at filtration, in particular how water treatment plants turn dirty tap and toilet and drain water into water clean enough to pump back into the rivers and seas.
In RE we looked at another of the 5 pillars of Islam, this time looking at the act of Zakat (charity) and how Muslims give just not financial support by also things such as time to the community.
Next week we will make our Mayan masks so this week the class designed their final drafts!
Have a good weekend everyone
