In Literacy this week we have been planning and writing our hot write. We used all of the writing features we have learnt about this term to write exciting and informative newspaper reports on the eruption of Pompeii. We then edited our learning to make sure it was as accurate as possible.

In Maths, Year 3 moved on to look at mass and capacity this week. We started the week recapping our understanding of scales and identifying the value of each interval. We understood that mass is measured in grams or kilograms and used this to read scales accurately and identify an objects mass. We finished the week by measuring objects found in the classroom and reading and recording their mass in grams (g) and kilograms (kg). Year 4 have been looking at the relationship between fractions and decimals this week. We have used our knowledge of place value to help us to be able to convert fractions over 10 and 100 into their equivalent decimals. We have looked at what the value of each digit in the decimal is worth and how we can partition and represent theses in different ways.

In History this week we learnt about the local significance of Rochester castle, and the famous siege in 1215 (ask us how the siege was ended using 40 fat pigs!). We compared Rochester and Leeds castle and how Rochester castle was built to better defend the bridge and river it was built near. In Music we were learning to identify rhythm and beat. We listened to the instruments we could hear in Tchaikovsky’s Fantasy overture, and how the call and response was achieved by changing the rhythm but keeping the same beat. In Art we continue to develop our mastery of sketching by recreating our own versions of Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring. We all drew the same basic outline and then used the skills of drawing facial features we have learnt this term to add in her facial features trying to recreate the realist style of Vermeer.

Please remember it is our class assembly next Friday at 9am, we would love to see as many parents there as possible.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mr Saunders, Mrs Hendry and Miss Parkes.
