Week 7
We may be heading towards the end of the term, however the learning doesn't stop in Holly Class.
This week in Maths we have begun to learn to name and describe the properties of 3D shapes. It has been challenging to learn the names of the 3D shapes and not to get them confused with names of 2D shapes. We have learnt about a cuboid, cube, sphere, cone and square based pyramid. We have also had to learn the words VERTICES, EDGES and FACES to describe 3D shapes. Although this has been challenging learning, Holly Class have demonstrated great resilience and are improving. We have also learnt a trick of putting a piece of blu-tac on each vertex or edge to help us count them.
In English this week we completed our diary entries unit by pretending to be Samuel Pepys on the night of the Great Fire of London. We decided that Samuel Pepys must have been asleep and got woken up by his maid who told him about the fire. We then wrote a diary entry as Samuel Pepys and many of us included the fact that he buried his cheese and wine in his garden!
In Science this week we considered the suitability of materials. We explained why objects were made out of a certain materials. Finally in Computing we re-created a sunflower painting using the technique of pointillism like George Seurat. We then compared which media we preferred - painting live or using the Show Me app to paint and interestingly enough most of us said we enjoyed using real paints.
Next week are our Nativity Performances. Please check the newsletter for timings. We look forward to seeing you then.
