Spring Term 1- Week 4 and 5

Week 4 and 5

In English we have been reading a new text called 'Man on the Moon' by Simon Bartman.  This a humorous text about an astronaut called Bob who travels everyday to work on the moon. His jobs include sweeping the moon, dealing with tourists and checking for alien activity. We have been hot-seating each other as Bob, using question words and then wrote descriptions of Bob using adjectives. We used adjectives like 'clean,' 'tidy' and 'focused' to describe Bob.

In Maths we have been learning to add and subtract. We started doing this using manipulatives and then moved onto pictorial methods. Year 1s have been learning to add and subtract numbers using a number line and Year 2s have been learning to add and subtract two 2 digit numbers by drawing Base 10 pictorially.

Holly Class have really been enjoying our Science unit this term. We have become experts at spotting things that are living, dead and never been alive.  We have learnt how animals might obtain their food by hunting, foraging, scavenging or grazing amongst many others.  We have also learnt about food chains and have understood a food chain begins with the producer and the predator is always at the top of the food chain. We learnt what could happen if a food chain breaks and also learnt about what happened to the Dodo bird.

In R.E we finished our topic on sacred places and have designed our own models of a church or mosque. Finally in Art we have been learnt to create our own prints.
