Term 1 Week 3

Another very busy week in Ivy Class, the children have been brimming with excitement about all of their learning.

English:

The children have practised their handwriting of the ladder letters, so they practised writing l, i, t with lead in lines. They have learnt about using question words and composed their own questions to ask the character Captain Purplebeard. They have learnt about the prefix ‘un’ and added it to words that could describe a pirate. The children finished the week by designing their own pirate and thought of adjectives to describe them.

Maths:

The children have practised their number recognition to 20, a vast majority of children were confident with numbers to 10 but found their teen numbers harder. Please practise recognising numbers to 20 at home. They have then moved onto to practise identifying one more and one less than a number to 20.

Science:

The children recorded the results of our materials experiment last week. They identified that plastic, wood and metal were good materials to use to make a pirate ship. They learnt about a conclusion and created their own conclusions from the results of the experiment.

Art:

The children continued to use their observational skills from last week but this week the focus was to look at the detail in objects. This might have included representing the lines on leaves, bumps on tree bark, shadows on rocks and holes in leaves.

PE:

The children learnt different movements to represent Autumn leaves and trees and linked these together to create their own Autumn dance.

Music:

The children learnt a pirate shanty, they learnt the song and added some actions to help them remember the words. We were very proud of the children for their learning as the song was very fast and the children did their best to keep up with the pace.

PSHE:

The children have learnt about friendship. They have thought about and sorted friendly and unfriendly scenarios.

Computing:

The children learnt about technology and how technology has been created to help us do different things. The children identified the uses of different types of technology and then identified which bit of technology has been created to certain purposes, for example: cleaning at home – which technology would help with this?

Geography:

The children learnt about the 5 oceans of the world. They learnt the names of the oceans and then located them on a map.

RE:

The children learnt about how Muslims have 99 names for God and learnt about how they use calligraphy to represent the names. The children drew their own representations of what they felt the words ‘Al Malik’ and ‘Ar-Rahman’ meant to them.

The children have been sent home with their reading books and home learning today. Please can you make sure the books are sent back into school every day.

Have a wonderful weekend
