Another busy week has absolutely flown by. The weeks are rapidly creeping closer to Christmas. We've had rehearsals of the whole nativity, with the dances and songs coming out of our ears this week!
Ivy class have had another incredibly busy week on top of all this Christmas craziness with their learning and a trip to St Martin's Church.
English:
This week the children have learnt more about the Great Fire of London through the recount 'Vlad and the Great Fire of London'. The children learnt about different vocabulary including words like: fiery embers, inferno raged. The children learnt about personal pronouns, particularly the word 'I', which they used to write sentences as the character 'Vlad'. They thought about what they saw, heard, smelt and felt whilst being Vlad. When writing these sentences, the children were reminded about using finger spaces in their work along with listening carefully to their sounds.
The children also learnt about the trigraph 'igh'; they practiced recognising the sound and then using their phonics to write 'igh' words.
Maths:
This week the children have been learning about the position of numbers on a number line. The children began to identify whether numbers came before or after a selection of given numerals. Some children made us incredibly proud by trying to use their knowledge of tens and ones to help them estimate the number position.
RE:
The children learnt about the important Christian story 'The Nativity'. This learning began during the children's visit to St Martin's church on Monday and then through acting out the Christmas story later in the week.
PSHE:
This week the children learnt about the importance of getting enough sleep to ensure their brain and body work to their full potential.
Science:
This week the children learnt how to record the results of our experiment last week. Last week we learnt how different materials can be changed by adding pressure. This week the children recorded whether the material could be twisted, bent, squashed or stretched.
History:
The children learnt about why the fire spread so easily during the Great Fire of London. The children worked collaboratively to build a small version of a Tudor house, the children then lined their houses up next to each other to show an example of how close the houses were built together.
Please send in recycling next week for the children to build their London landmarks that they've designed.
Also, on another note please read with your child and write in their reading record when you have done this. We have noticed a huge decline in the number of children reading at home. You have got the option of an e-book on Oxford Owl or the physical book in their book bag.
Have a wonderful weekend.
