This week has been another incredibly busy week with so much learning to do and just not enough time to do it all.
English:
The children learnt about how we write in the past tense. They learnt about adding -ed endings, they learnt how the -ed ending can make different sounds in words like 'd in played', 't in looked' and 'id in hunted'. The children looked at different root words and then matched them with the past tense -ed word. They then explored putting the words into sentences. The children also thought carefully about how they can use their past tense to write about the events of the Great Fire of London. This has helped us to identify target areas for the children such as sentence composition, including finger spaces and capital letters.
Maths:
The children learnt about finding one more and one less than a number up to 50. They used number lines and 50 squares to help them identify one more and one less than a range of numbers. They have also learnt about using the language of more than, less than and equal to when comparing two different numbers.
RE:
The children continued learning about the Nativity story and acted this out. They then used this to help them remember the events in order to sequence pictures.
Pantomime:
The children were incredibly lucky on Tuesday afternoon to watch a performance of 'Snow White' performed by students from Valley Park. The children were all very excited by different elements of the performance.
Ballet workshop:
On Wednesday the children took part in a live lesson organised by the Royal Ballet and Opera. It was all based around the story 'Alice in Wonderland'.
PSHE:
The children learnt about the importance of hand washing and the correct way to wash their hands. The children learnt about the best way to wash their hands ensuring they cover their whole hands with soap and then thoroughly wash them off with water. The children learnt how soap helps to protect our hands from germs. They learnt about different times to make sure they wash their hands to prevent the spread of germs.
The children are all very excited to show you their first Nativity performance in KS1 - Lights Camel Action, we look forward to seeing you either on Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday morning for the performances.
Have a wonderful weekend.
