The final week of Term 4. The children are now over two thirds of their way through Year 1, this really doesn’t seem possible.
English:
In English this week, the children have had a phonics focus to their learning. They have learnt about the different spellings of the sounds 'ir', 'er' and 'ur' along with 'oo' and 'ew'. The children have been practising their use of their phonics to accurately spell words. We have been working on stretching the words out slowly to help them identify the sounds in the words and then writing what they can hear. This is something that is a work in progress but will be reinforced and continued next term in their English lessons.
Maths:
In Maths this week, the children have continued learning about length and height, in particular they have been comparing the length and height of objects using language such as longer, longest, shorter, shortest, taller and tallest. They have also been working extremely hard to develop their multiplication knowledge on T T Rockstars. Please continue using T T Rockstars over the Easter holiday to support with this.
Science:
In Science this week, the children learnt about the importance of brushing their teeth for the required amount of time and also how to ensure that when brushing they clean all areas of their mouths. The children also learnt about food that is good and bad for our teeth.
DT:
In DT this week, the children evaluated their pizzas from last week. Many of them were keen to share that they enjoyed eating the cheese but they would take off the vegetables that they had put on.
Geography:
In Geography this week, the children used google earth to explore Maidstone and Milan. They then began to think carefully about the differences between the two places. When exploring Milan the children saw trams but we discussed how this isn’t something that we would find in Maidstone.
RE:
In RE this week, the children consolidated their learning about the Easter story and learnt about the importance and the representation of hot cross buns. The children then worked collaboratively to make their hot cross buns.
Computing:
In Computing this week, the children continued to explore Scratch JR, they created some of their own codes and watched as their Sprites moved around the screen.
Have a wonderful Easter holiday, see you in Term 5.
