Term 1, Week 1 6/9/25

Welcome to our first webpage of the year for Rowan Class 2025 - 2026.

This week has been a settling back in after a long summer break week. We have been getting to know each other and learning the rules, routines, Flexible Seating and expectations.

In English, we have been recapping on previous learning about nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs ensuring we recognise them in our reading and writing.

In Maths, we split into Year 5 and 6 groups. Rowan Year 6 are with Mr Bowles and Mrs Harris and will stay in Rowan Class. The Year 5's are with Mrs Ellis and Ms Pitcher. Mrs Ellis teaches Monday - Wednesday and Ms Pitcher teaches Thursday and Friday. We have all been focusing on place value. Year 5 need to read and write numbers up to 1,000,000 whilst year 6 need to recognise numbers up to 10,000,000. Both year groups need to know the value of each digit in the number system.

We have also played team games in PE so that we can recognise each other's skills and learn to play as a team.

In DT we have been refreshing our knowledge on healthy food and the main food groups creating a healthy balanced 3 course meal.

In RE, we looked at what atheist, agnostic and theist means in terms of religious beliefs.

Next week we will start our English focused text called Kensuke's Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo.
