What a whirlwind of a week! We’ve packed in loads of learning.
In English, Kensuke’s Kingdom has us hooked. Michael met Kensuke — a kind, mysterious man who’s been living on the island since WWII. He saved Michael and his dog Stella Artois (yes, that’s really her name!) after a scary jellyfish incident. We wrote all about Kensuke’s cave and imagined how panicked Michael’s parents must’ve been when they woke up and found that there was no Michael, no dog! Then we got creative and made iMovie news reports to spread the word.
Maths has been busy: Year 5 have been adding, subtracting, estimating, and using the inverse (opposite) to check their answers. Year 6 have been cracking the code on long multiplication and short division, learning clever tricks and rules to make it all click. They also spotted some patterns and used factors to help divide tricky 2-digit numbers, too!
Science was all about life cycles—this week we focused on mammals and birds. learning facts about how they grow, change and how they (we) begin life.
In Geography, we explored Fair Trade and what this means. We learnt that Fair Trade benefits the communities and workers from other countries so that they get paid fairly for their farming and manufacturing.
PSHE got us thinking about respect—how we show it to others and (just as important!) ourselves. And in PE, we’ve been dribbling, passing, and scoring in football and basketball. I am very impressed by how well we are working as a team.
Golden book - George for his learning in Science. He produced great life cycles and asked relevant questions.
Mali - for increasing in confidence and joining in with class discussions.
Quick Reminders:
