Almost the end of January! So, what have we been up to this week? 

✏️ English

In English this week we have read the Mayan story about the Hero Twins. 📖 This week we have focused on what it would be like to be a newspaper reporter. 🗞️ We have looked at the features of a newspaper report, we have written a summary for a newspaper report, we have looked at direct and reported speech and finished the week off by writing to include reported and direct speech. ✍️💬

➗ Maths

In Maths, Year 5 have been multiplying fractions and using this knowledge to solve problems. ➗ Year 6 have been multiplying and dividing decimal numbers by whole numbers and problem solving. 🔢

🔬 Science

In Science, we are learning about Materials and their Properties. 🔍 This week we explored reversibility and irreversibility and discussed which materials are reversible and irreversible. This led to a great discussion about jelly. 🍮🤔

🏺 History

In History, we learnt about Mayan writing and looked at hieroglyphics. ✍️ We explored symbols and signs and attempted to write our names and simple sentences using Mayan writing. 🔤

☪️ RE

In RE, we recapped on the 3rd Pillar of Islam: Salah and why Prayer is important to Muslim people. 🙏

🤸 PE

In PE, we learnt about counter balance and counter tension. ⚖️ In pairs we explored different ways to balance using apparatus. 🤝

💬 PSHE

In PSHE, we explored decision making and looked at different scenarios. 💡 We discussed and identified the for and against decisions for each scenario. ⚖️

📱 Mobile Phones

There are some children who do not have permission to bring their phones to school as parents have not completed the Microsoft Form. 📱 Your child has been told if they do not have permission. You can find the QR code for this on the school newsletter or click this link.

ℹ️ Information

• Jewellery - Earrings should not be worn for PE. Only stud earrings should be worn to school. Watches can be worn, but smart watches must be handed in with mobile phones every morning where they will be given back at the end of the school day. No other jewellery should be worn, including necklaces. ⌚🚫
  · PE Kits – please follow the school uniform policy for the correct PE kit. 👟
  · PE is on Tuesday and Friday. We will be doing Gymnastics and Hockey. 🤸‍♀️🏑

🎸 TTRS

TTRS: The Battle of the Bands between Rowan and Cherry has started. 🎵🔥 It ends on Tuesday 3rd February 2026 at 6pm. Please encourage your child to take part. 🏆

🏡 Home Learning

Home learning is to learn their times tables on TTRockstars. This is monitored weekly. 🎸
EdShed, where they will learn to improve their spelling. The weekly spellings on EdShed are also learnt in school. 🐝
Year 6 have maths home learning set on MyMaths. All children have been given their passwords. 💻
The children should also be reading daily and writing in their Reading Records. 📚📝
