Term 1 Week 5

Through Literacy this week we used the story mountain to identify each stage a story goes through (opening, build up, problem, resolution, ending). We used this structure to plan our own adventure stories, inspired by Robinson Crusoe and his stay on a deserted island. We used noun phrases, similes and powerful verbs to create this plan.

In Maths, Year 3 started their addition and subtraction unit, identifying which digits change when adding ones, tens and hundreds without exchanging. Year 4 have been looking at rounding numbers to the nearest 10,100 and 1000.

In Geography we explored another island, the Galapagos Islands where we identified the physical and human geography of this island. We also explored the variety of animals that live there. We started to make comparisons between the islands that we have explored- Malta and the Galapagos Islands and compared these with Kent.

Through Art we looked at Damien Hirsts ‘Beautiful Paintings’ and were inspired to create some of our own. We used paints and paper plates to create the spinning effect Damien used. We thought about the colours used and represented Damien’s previous works linked to the sea as our theme.

Have a great, restful weekend!
