Term 2 Week 1

Welcome back! The children have had a great first week back after half term. We hope you enjoyed the break. A huge well done to the children today for their class assembly. Thank you to everyone who came along, the children really love sharing their learning with you.

In our English lessons this week we started to read our new key text, 'Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx.' The children thought carefully about the different characters feelings using their inference skills and really enjoyed discussing which adventures Marcy’s father, who was an adventurer, may have been on.

In Maths Year 3 have consolidated their understanding of the use the compact column method for addition and subtraction, now understanding when and how to exchange a 10 or a 100. Year 4 have been learning to find the area of rectilinear shapes.

Through Science, we made predictions and compared the transparency of a range of materials, helping Scientist Suzie to decide which material she should use to make a pair of curtains and why. In History, we transformed the classroom into an archeological site, putting puzzle pieces together and finding clues in the form of Historical sources. We explored a range of different sources and discussed what they show us. We reviewed the history periods we have previously explored and used the sources to conclude that our next topic is all about the ancient Egyptians!

If you haven’t already, please could you send your child into school with a cardboard box.

We hope you have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Daniells and Mrs Ali.
