We have had another fantastic week in Walnut Class.
Through English we created setting descriptions, focusing on the use of our senses to imagine we were with Marcy, in Egypt. We worked hard to ensure these paragraphs were descriptions, not stories and used time conjunctions and adverbs to help our reader picture the scene. We also explored the use of personification and included human like verbs to describe the actions objects may do. For example the wind singing.
In Maths, Year 3 were identifying and recalling the 2, 5 and 10 times table. They identified these multiples and could explain what makes them a multiple. They then applied this knowledge to larger numbers, recognising that 3567 could not be a multiple of 5 and could explain why. Please support your child in recalling the 2, 5 and 10 times table at home. They really enjoyed playing a game of ‘Around the World!’. In Year 4, the children have moved on to learning the 7, 11 and 12 times tables, recalling the multiplication and division facts for these multiples.
Through Science we planned a fair test experiment around the topic of shadows. The children are planning to find patterns in how the size of a shadow changes. We thought about what a fair test means and how we can ensure that our experiment is fair. We also discussed which variables we would be changing and which would be measured.
Through DT we continued to think about Egyptian tombs and looked at the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb and the items that were discovered within it. The children designed 4 items to include in their tomb.
Through PE we explored different rolls in gymnastics, practising a pencil roll, egg/tuck roll and a dish roll. The children combined two of these rolls into a sequence and could explain which was their favourite and why.
Through Music the children began using the Xylophones to play a chord as a class. We have also been learning a few Latin, Salsa moves as the focus this term is around Latin music.
Thank you for the newspapers that have been brought into school. If any more are available, please do send them our way.
If anyone is available to support with swimming, walking down to the pool at 1:30pm and walking back to school after the lesson, on Tuesday, please do let us know.
Thank you for your support.
