Term 2 Week 7

In Literacy this week we identified and created rhyming couplets in poetry. We looked at a popular poem - ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas’ by Clement Clarke Moore, and identified the rhyming words and the poems themes. We then had a go at editing this poem and even tried writing our own poems based around Christmas. We tried to incorporate rhyming couplets into them.

In Maths Year 4 have been consolidating their understanding of rounding to 10, 100 and 1000, ordering and comparing numbers beyond 1000 and area of rectilinear shapes. Year 3 have been looking at the relationship between the 2, 4 and 8 times table and how to use these facts to solve problems.

In History we learnt about the Pyramids of Giza. We researched to find out why they were built, how and when they were built and where they are located. The children then used post it notes to share their findings, later turning these into a factfile. Through their Early Morning Work this week they have also been learning how to draw a 3D pyramid.

In computing we learned about using our coding and programming knowledge to debug a game on Scratch. The children identified what these bugs were and used their coding skills to fix them. In our Art learning we used sketching skills to create Ancient Egyptian wall art for our tombs. The children loved getting into the Egyptian mood, listening to Egyptian music whilst sketching. Through Spanish the children consolidated their knowledge of Spanish fruits and have shown increased confidence in both speaking and reading Spanish.

Just a reminder, no swimming again next week.

Have a fantastic weekend.
