Good afternoon and happy Friday!
This week through Literacy the children have been digging deeper into non-chronological reports by identifying and using headings and sub headings. They researched to find out about caves and learnt how to take notes by identifying the key points from an information source. Later on in the week, they turned these notes into sentences and then paragraphs.
In Maths, Year 3 have been learning how to multiply larger numbers using the grid method. They were using their understanding of place value and multiplying and dividing by 10 to use facts such as 2x4 to help them solve 20x4 or 2x40. Year 4 were also consolidating and applying their understanding of multiplying by 10 and 100 too.
In Science, the children took part in an exciting Rocks workshop lead by the Kent Wildlife Trust. The children were introduced to the 3 different types of rocks (Sedimentary, Metamorphic and Igneous) and their features. They handled a range of different rocks, in all different shapes and sizes and classified these based on their properties. The children were so engaged and their brilliant behaviour was acknowledged by the workshop leader - go Walnuts! Please make sure to pay for your child’s attendance on ScoPay.
Through Art, the children created their own piece of art based on the work of The Great Wave by Hokusai. They used sketching and water colours to bring their piece to life, working hard to keep their piece 3D. In Geography, the children identified the structure of a volcano and understood how each of the parts contribute to the eruption. The children were fascinated by this.
We have had a lot of wet weather this week, meaning a lot of wet plays. We have noticed that our ‘Wet Play’ games cupboard is looking quite empty and sad. If you have any board games at home that you no longer use, the children in Walnut Class would be really grateful to add these to the wet play supplies. Thank you in advance.
Have a great weekend.
Mrs Daniells and Mrs Ali.
