Term 1 Week 3 18.9.26

We are getting used to the routines now, having completed 2 full weeks. Well done Cedar for our first class assembly. We had a lot of learning to share considering we've only been back just over 2 weeks.

In English, we have started to watch the film of Goodnight Mr Tom. We have met William Beech and are getting to know his character and how his relationship is building with Mr Tom. We are beginning to understand what life was like for an evacuee. We have been writing expanded noun phrases to describe William and exploring the features of a diary. We completed the week by writing a diary entry for William.

In Maths, Year 5 have continued to explore place value. They have continued to learn to read, write, compare and order numbers up to 10,000, 100,000 and 1,000,000 and determine their values. We have also been learning to partition numbers and order them in ascending and descending order. Year 6 have been learning to complete number lines with both negative and positive numbers, learning how to add and subtract negative numbers and compare them. They have also been rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100, 1,000, 10,000, 100,000 and 1,000,000.

In Science, we have been comparing the life cycles of animals exploring similarities and differences.

In History, we ordered historical events chronologically along a timeline.

In PSHE, we are learning about physical activity and the importance of movement.

In PE, we are learning skills to play football and basketball. We have also been practicing running for sports day.
