πŸŽ“ Year 6 Parents' Information Evening

A reminder that our Year 6 Parents' Information Evening will take place on Wednesday 14th October at 3:30pm in Rowan Class.

This will be a great opportunity to find out more about what Year 6 has in store, including:

βœ… SATs
βœ… Secondary school transition
βœ… Home learning expectations
βœ… Ways you can support your child at home
βœ… Any questions you may have

We look forward to seeing you there! 😊

✍️ English

This week, we finished watching Goodnight Mister Tom. πŸ“–

The children enjoyed discussing how they thought the story might end and used evidence from the text to support their ideas. We have also continued writing diary entries and ended the week with some exciting drama activities, acting out key scenes from the story. 🎭

Next week, we will begin planning and writing our own independent piece of writing for our Hot Write. We cannot wait to see the children's creativity shine through! 🌟

πŸ”’ Maths

Year 6

Year 6 have been revisiting short division using the bus stop method and have now been introduced to long division. βž—

Knowing multiplication facts is essential for success with these methods. A small number of children still need to improve their times table recall, so regular practice on TTRS (Times Tables Rock Stars) would be extremely beneficial. 🎸⭐

The children have also been learning about BODMAS and using it to solve calculations involving more than one operation. 🧠

Year 5

Year 5 have continued focusing on addition and subtraction using formal written methods. πŸ“

They have also been using mental strategies and known number facts to help them find missing numbers and solve problems efficiently. Excellent effort all round! πŸ‘

πŸ”¬ Science

In Science, we ventured onto the school grounds to observe a variety of plants. πŸŒΏπŸ”Ž

The children carefully examined leaves and recorded their observations, ready to begin classifying them next week. They showed excellent scientific enquiry skills and asked some thoughtful questions.

✝️ RE

This week in RE, we explored Christian beliefs about life after death. πŸ™

The children read and discussed a poem called Heaven, considering its meaning and the messages it conveyed. This led to some interesting and reflective conversations.

πŸ›οΈ History

This week, we have been finding out more about The Blitz during World War II. πŸ’‘

The children explored its causes, consequences and the impact it had on ordinary people. They were particularly interested when Mr Bowles shared how his own family played a part in the war effort, helping to bring history to life through real family connections. πŸ“œ
