Cherry Class Blog 2026 27 Week 2 Term 1

Welcome parents to our first 'proper' blog of the academic year, having just completed our first full week.

Can I just start off by saying how lucky I am with the class I have been allocated this year. We have completed tasks over a wide range of subjects , including English and Maths, History and Science, RE and Spanish, PE and Reading, and the children have worked so well together, listened to the whole-class teaching and asked some pertinent questions. This first week for me has been very enjoyable and that is all down to the children.

In English we will start our class text 'Goodnight Mr Tom' next week but the children this week had the opportunity to write in the first person (a diary entry) about a child who has gone on a journey on their own and everything they saw, heard and did on the journey also.

In Maths, both year groups have worked this week looking at place value, looking at the value of digits up to 10 million.

In History, the children looked at timelines and completed their own timelines from their year of birth until 2026, including significant personal events (such as joining Park Way School, birth of younger brothers and sisters) and then researched major world-wide events that took place in the corresponding years.

PE this morning took us onto the playground and we had an energetic basketball session, with full participation from everyone, which was great to see and encouraging signs for the rest of the year.

Have a great weekend everyone

Mr J Ramsden

P.S. Just a reminder to Year 6 parents that local secondary schools will be holding open days and evenings this term in particular and to contact the secondary schools to find out when they will be holding these said events.
