Week 2

Holly Class are settling in really well in to life in KS1.  We are getting used to the routines and expectations of the classroom and have done some fabulous learning this week.

In English we have been focusing on our handwriting. In Year 1 the expectation is to use pre-cursive handwriting and by the end of Year 2, children should be using cursive handwriting. This week we have been practising pre-cursive strokes and have started to learn how to form cursive c and a, which are part of the 'Curly Caterpillar Letters' family.  We have also been reviewing the sounds we have learnt in our previous year group and applying these to read words and spell them.

Year 1s have been learning to count numbers to 20 and have been practising writing numerals.  Year 2s have also been going over writing numbers to 20 in numerals but have also been learning to write the numbers in words. We have learnt that 'one' is a tricky word to spell and can spell it using the mnemonic 'Orange Nosed Elephant.'

This term in Science we will be learning about the seasons. We have learnt that there are 4 seasons in the UK and have been going over them to remember the order the seasons occur during the year.  Autumn seems to be the one that we find the trickiest to remember, but luckily it is just around the corner and we will have plenty of opportunities to go outside and experience it.

In History this week we began to compare Victorian and modern toys. We have also been learning about how Victorians would take silhouette portraits of themselves and have created our own portraits. Please check our Teams page next week to see them.
