Term 1 Week 2

Good afternoon!

The children have had a fantastic week in Oak Class, settling even more into routines and really trying their best- well done Oak Class!

In Maths, we recapped how to form the numbers from 0-10, using taught rhymes and then moved on to read, write and make the numbers from 10-20, using resources. We thought carefully about putting ten in our head and counting on, rather than counting each individual counter. Please continue counting forwards and backwards with your child from any number within 100. This is a great task to do when travelling to and from school!

In Literacy, we focused on reading and recapping our phonics knowledge, using Fred the frog to help us blend and read. The children have learnt the special friend sounds “ay” and “ee” this week. Please find some time to consolidate this at home, using the video links below. You do not need a password or log in, the video should just load after being clicked on. In Science, we started to explore the seasons, thinking about what happens in each season, how trees look different and what types of clothing we should wear. The children represented the seasons in their own ways. In Art, we looked at the work of Monet and created our own version of ‘Water Lilies’ or ‘Impression Sunrise’ and thought about colour shading, using water colours. In PE, we played team games to develop our listening and attention skills, looking at our partner as well as using our ears to show that we are listening.  Please make sure that your child knows how to take their earrings in/out before/after PE lessons. If not, please ensure that they do not wear earrings on PE days (Mondays and Thursdays) for safety reasons. All long hair must be tied back daily too. In music, we explored rhythm and used actions to sing a familiar song. In History, we compared modern day toys to Victorian toys, thinking about the materials they are/were made from and how this has changed over time. The children were horrified to find out that toys were not readily available in toy shops in the Victorian times!

The children have made a really good start to Year 2. Please keep up regular reading at home (4 x weekly please). Now that all the children have been assessed and allocated reading groups at their correct levels, reading books will be sent home next week.
