π Rowan Class Weekly Update π
We have had a fantastic first week back after half term. The children have returned settled, focused and ready to learn. Well done to everyone for making such a positive start to the new term! π
βοΈ English
This week, we have begun studying The Highwayman. π The children have explored the first two stanzas of the poem and have been developing their summarising skills by identifying the key events and important details within the text.
π’ Maths
Year 5
Year 5 have been learning how to multiply and divide numbers by 10, 100 and 1,000. β They have been exploring how digits move within a number and applying their understanding to a range of fluency and reasoning questions.
Year 6
Year 6 have been focusing on adding and subtracting mixed-number fractions before moving on to multiplying fractions by whole numbers. π― The children have shown great perseverance when tackling these more challenging calculations and are becoming increasingly confident in their understanding of fractions.
π Geography
In Geography, we began learning about the River Medway and explored why it is such an important feature of Maidstone. π The children considered how the river has influenced the town's development and continues to play an important role today.
π¬ Science
In Science, we focused on writing scientific descriptions. π§ͺ The children practised using accurate scientific vocabulary and clear explanations to describe observations and scientific ideas.
Spanish
This week, we started our new topic, Mi Familia. The children have begun learning key vocabulary to describe family members and are developing their confidence when speaking Spanish. π£οΈ
ποΈ Educational Visit
Today, we enjoyed a trip into Maidstone to support our learning across several subjects. We spent time observing the River Medway and the town's bridges as part of our Design and Technology learning. π We also visited Maidstone Museum, where the children explored exhibits linked to our History topic and learned more about the history of our local area.
It was a very enjoyable day, and the children represented the school well throughout the visit. We were incredibly proud of their enthusiasm and curiosity ... even if the walk was a little longer than some would have liked! πΆββοΈπΆββοΈ
