Autumn Term 1 - Week 8

Week 8

The last 8 weeks have zoomed by; we have settled into the routines of Holly Class and continue to work hard to meet the expectations of Key Stage 1.

We have become masters at doubling and this week we have been working hard at trying to understand how we can add numbers near each other by using near doubling. We have learnt that if we need to work out 5 + 6 we can do 5 + 5 + 1 to work out that the answer is 11. Year 1s have been working on this strategy with numbers up to 10 and Year 2s have been working on numbers up to 20.

In History this week we learnt about the first aeroplane that was invented by the Wright Brothers. We learnt how this impacted our lives today as it made travelling faster and more comfortable. We also learnt that it means that mail can be delivered abroad quicker and also we can get fresher food into the country.

In Science this week we put up our windsocks to observe the wind. We also observed the weather using a rain gauge and recorded our results in a block diagram.

Holly Class have taken their P.E kits home for the half-term. Please return them to school on the first day back.  Also, please ensure all items in your child's P.E kit are labelled, including trainers and plimsolls. Have a lovely break and we will see you back in school on Tuesday 3rd November.
