First Full Week Back! Term 1 Week 2

What a wonderful start to the new school year! It has been an absolute pleasure welcoming the children back to Walnut Class. They have settled into their routines brilliantly and have already demonstrated a fantastic eagerness to learn. We have been particularly impressed by the children's excellent oracy skills and ambitious vocabulary when sharing their ideas and discussing their learning.

PE

In PE, we took part in a range of teamwork challenges that required us to communicate effectively with a partner in order to succeed. We also focused on developing our throwing and catching skills, showing resilience and encouragement towards one another throughout the activities.

Maths

Our Year 3 mathematicians have been exploring place value with numbers to 1,000. We have been representing and partitioning numbers using Base 10 resources and part-part-whole models. The children have also enjoyed tackling reasoning questions to explain and justify their mathematical thinking.  Year 4 have also been exploring place value ... just with bigger numbers!

Literacy

We began our exciting new text, The Cave Explorer, and learned about the famous Lascaux Caves in France. Using expanded noun phrases, we carefully described the caves and the fascinating features found inside them, helping us to develop our descriptive writing skills.

History and Science

Our learning journey into the Stone Age has begun! In History, we explored a range of Stone Age artefacts and considered what they can tell us about life in the past. In Science, we used historical evidence to answer questions and investigate what we know about Stone Age people.

Art

As part of our Stone Age topic, we took a virtual tour of the Lascaux Caves. We carefully observed the cave paintings and surroundings before creating creative mind maps to record our ideas and observations, which will support our artwork next week.

Geography

In Geography, we began locating key rivers and settlements within the United Kingdom, developing our understanding of the country.

Spanish

We enjoyed learning the Spanish alphabet and practised our pronunciation while listening to some music. The children showed great enthusiasm and confidence when joining in.

RE

In RE, we explored the question: What does it mean to be a Christian in Britain today? The children reflected thoughtfully on Christian beliefs and practices, while also considering their own beliefs and values.

A huge well done to all of the children for such a positive and productive first full week back. We are incredibly proud of the effort, enthusiasm and attitude they have shown.
