Cherry Class Blog 2026 25 Week 6 Term 1

Welcome everyone to our latest classroom blog!

Sadly, as the book has been greatly loved by all, we have come to the end of Goodnight Mr Tom. I knew the children would enjoy the story and I wasn't disappointed! Their engagement and understanding has been excellent and it is a shame that we have now concluded the story. This week the children wrote in role as one of the main characters, and had an excellent drama session also on the KS1 playground, acting out a particular scene of their choosing from the book with their friends from the class.

In Numeracy, Year 6 have spent the week fine-tuning their division skills, using both short and long division written methods whilst Year 5 have looked at inverse, missing numbers and consolidated written methods of both addition and subtraction.

In Topic on Monday we spent the afternoon looking at 'The Blitz' in detail, in particular the causes, the effects and the overall impact on the British population.

In Science we sketched an array of leaves in preparation for a follow-up lesson linked to plant classification and in PSHE we discussed emotions and how we deal with the range of emotions we experience on a daily basis.

In PE yesterday we went onto the field and had an enjoyable session linked to fitness and football and today we had a competitive session of basketball!

Have a great weekend everyone
